President Juncker of the European Commission has designated Mariya Gabriel to the role of Digital Economy and Society role. Gabrial was the candidate proposed by the Bulgarian Government for the role which is particularly important as it will support the implementation of the Digital Single Market Strategy in the European Union.

The Digital Single Market Strategy includes proposals to modernize European copyright law, harmonize laws across the EU making it easier to trade cultural products across Europe and develop new protections for intellectual property. The Digital Single Market strategy will hopefully include measures to better protect the position of authors and their rights to remuneration, calls which members the IAF have supported.
